Welsh Whiteley Architects advised the Sitka Sound Science Center as their historic architect in the preservation of this 50’ by 70’ single story post and beam structure through repair and replacement of elements where necessary. There was also a need to make the building more useful, so staff support areas and improved retail and food service areas were added. The building was insulated and a heating system was added, along with improvements to the plumbing and electrical systems.
