BAYSIDE HOTEL RENOVATION

This 3-story building occupies a prominent location adjacent to Ketchikan Creek, and the Creek Street and Stedman Thomas Historic Districts.  The primary elevation of the mixed use hotel and retail building was returned to its 1920s appearance during this complete renovation. The side and rear elevations facing Ketchikan creek were modified to respond to the pedestrian traffic which occurs on all four sides of the building, the high visibility from the surrounding historic neighborhoods, and the beautiful view that the creek affords.

Extensive structural repair, improvements to the egress system, and new mechanical, electrical, and sprinkler systems were necessary to bring the building up to today’s code standards.  The broad side of the building faces directly towards the prevailing wind and rain, so a rainscreen system was utilized to help keep the wood siding from holding moisture.
