OPPORTUNITY HOUSE

Welsh Whiteley Architects worked closely with the non-profit agencies Opportunity, Inc. and Community Connections to construct this 6,990 sq ft building that includes six 1-bedroom units and two 2-bedroom units, all designed for either full accessibility or easy adaptability.

Opportunity House provides people with developmental disabilities with the opportunity to live independently. Shared laundry, recreation rooms, and a front office for staff were included in the floor plan. The exterior is designed to fit into the surrounding mixed-use area, with a primary goal of creating a compatible neighbor for adjacent single family homes.

Project funding was provided by the US Department of Housing and and Urban Development, the US Department of Agriculture, the Alaska Mental Health Trust, and numerous Ketchikan donors and supporters.
