Welsh Whiteley Architects is seeking a license-track Intern or Staff Architect with a professional degree and 6 months to 5 years of experience.  We are a four-person office located in downtown Ketchikan, Alaska. We do a wide variety of project types for community organizations, commercial and institutional clients, and local government.

Love living in a small town? Our office may be a perfect fit. Ketchikan is a small and diverse Southeast Alaskan community, with about 13,000 residents in the city and surrounding area. Major industries include seasonal tourism, forestry, commercial fishing, and shipbuilding. Although small in size, Ketchikan is a busy regional center for commerce, government and health care.

Live in a place without freeways, and with nature at your doorstep. Adventure outdoors by going on hikes, kayaking through the inside passage, taking advantage of world-class fishing, camping in the Alaskan Bush, among many other recreational activities. When it’s cold and wet outside, stay inside to appreciate the vibrant visual and performing arts community Ketchikan has to offer, or enjoy the community’s recreation and aquatic center.

The Intern or Staff Architect will work directly with each of the two principals, and collaborate with other team members for the delivery of successful projects. Presentation to clients, contractors, the public, or to other groups is sometimes required. We offer competitive salary and benefits, and opportunities for increased responsibility as your experience and skills grow.

A successful candidate must be self-motivated and detail-oriented, with excellent verbal, written and graphic communication skills, reliable work habits, and willingness to participate in a collaborative team process.  Proficiency with AutoCAD is required. Experience with Revit, InDesign and other graphic software is desired. Education and experience in fields related to architecture, such as interior design, historic preservation, or construction management, are a plus. Join us to see the positive effect your work can have on a small community.
