Intern Architect Position

Welsh Whiteley Architects is recruiting for a license-track intern architect with professional degree and 1 to 5 years of experience. We are a four-person architectural partnership located in downtown Ketchikan, Alaska. We do a wide variety of project types for community organizations, commercial and institutional clients, and local government.

Would you like to see the positive effect your work can have on a small community? Work more closely and collaboratively with your employers, clients, and contractors? Live in a place without freeways, and with nature at your doorstep? Do you love to be outside hiking, fishing and camping, but also love to gather in a warm place with friends when it's cold and wet outside? If you also happen to love living in a small town, our office may be the right place for you.

The intern architect involves working directly with each of the two principals, and collaborating with other team members for the delivery of successful projects. Presentation to clients, the public, or to other groups is sometimes required. We offer competitive salary and benefits, and opportunities for increased responsibility as an individual’s experience and skills grow.

The successful candidate must be self-motivated, have excellent verbal, written, and graphic communication skills, reliable work habits, and be willing to participate in a collaborative team process. Proficiency with AutoCAD is required. Experience with Revit, Photoshop, InDesign and other graphic software is desired. Education and experience in fields related to architecture, such as interior design, historic preservation, or construction management are a plus.

Ketchikan is a small community with about 13,000 residents in the City and surrounding area. Major industries include seasonal tourism, forestry, commercial fishing, and shipbuilding. While our community may be small in size, it is a regional center for commerce, government and health care, has vibrant arts, theater, and music communities, and dozens of recreational activities including world-class fishing, hiking, kayaking, cross-country skiing, camping, and a community recreation center and swimming pool.
