ARCHAEOLOGICAL & CULTURAL RESOURCE SERVICES FOR THE TONGASS NATIONAL FOREST

As a member of Cultural Resources Consultants’ team, Welsh Whiteley Architects has been documenting recreational cabins within the Tongass National Forest that are fifty-years old or older to determine which may be eligible for the National Register of Historical Places.

To date, we have visited 16 remote cabins located in several ranger districts within the Tongass National Forest. Pan Abodes, A-frames, Hunter-style, and a log cabin have been surveyed, documented and described. Logistics have been a challenge for many of these trips. We have used float planes, helicopters, and shallow draft boats to access these remote sites.
